Orexin-A (hypocretin-1) is a neuropeptide ligand for the orexin receptors OX1R and OX2R, regulating wakefulness, appetite, and energy balance.

What it is

Orexin-A is produced in the lateral hypothalamus and coordinates the sleep-wake state with arousal, food intake, and autonomic function. Loss of orexin-producing neurons is the primary cause of narcolepsy with cataplexy, making orexin-A an important pharmacological tool in sleep and metabolism research. For research use only.
